The main papers on the paleoceanography, paleoclimatology and biostratigraphy of the Brazilian Quaternary based on foraminifer, thecamoebian and ostracode associations are briefly discussed in this paper. Focus is placed upon the methods applied to these associations for the purpose of biostratigraphy and paleoenvironmental interpretations.
