Resumo

The objective of this work ís to demonstrate that the Espinhaço Supergroup, in the area of Diamantina (MG), was not affected by any tectonism prior to the deposition of the Bambuí Group. Both stratigraphic units exhibit a similar structural evoluticn, and shall be considered as Cratonic covers, deposited during Middle to Late Proterozoic, on the southeastern edge of the São Francisco Craton, and slightly folded during the Brasiliano orogeny. As addítional resulte, it was shown that the elongation of pebbles and mica plates within quartzites and metaconglomerates of the Espinhaço Supergroup is parallel to the X axisof the strain ellipsoid, and that the observed pattern of the lineatíons índicates a tectonic transport towards west, in the direction of the São Francisco Craton.
