GRANULOMETRIA DOS SEDIMENTOS DE FUNDO DA REGIÃO DE CANANÉIA, SP.
Resumo
The results of 95 granulometric analyses of bottom sediments collected in the region of Cananeia (State of São Paulo, Brazil) are discussed in this paper, having in view the understanding of the nature and intensity of the different factors intervening in the present deposition. Methods and physiographic characters of the region are described. Through the discussion of some of the sediment parameters and of the calcareous composition in the fraction :> 44µ and < 44µ it was possible to show that:
1) these sediments, as a whole, are mostly composed of "fine" and "very fine" sands (Wentworth Size Classification).
2) some of the sediments have special characteristics due to particular topographic features of the bottom such as flats, shallows, shoals or small local basins.
3) flood-currents are predominant over ebb-currents in the deposition mechanism.
4) a zonal influence was observed on sedimentation, caused by sea and land originated waters.
