CONTRIBUIÇÃO AO ESTUDO DA GEOLOGIA E ÁGUAS SUBTERRÂNEAS EM SÃO CARLOS

ALFREDO J. S. BJORNBERG, MÁRIO TOLENTINO

Resumo

This article deals with the geology and ground water of the São Carlos plateau, State of São Paulo. The authors based on field work and boreholes arrived at the following conclusions: The Bauru series occurs on top of the São Carlos plateau; underneath follows the São Bento series, with basalts and the Botucatu sandstone. The basalts thin out at the southeastern edge of the plateau. The contact between the Bauru sandstone and the basalt is always at an altitude of about 800 meters. The Botucatu sandstone is the best aquifer. Ground water supply in the São Carlos area is adequate, thanks to soil permeability and amount of rain.
