COMPORTAMENTO ESPACIAL DA FORMAÇÃO BAURU NA REGIÃO NORTE-OCIDENTAL DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO

Resumo

The seeming geological uniformity of the Bauru Formation (Kn), which occurs in a large area of the Northern part of the Paraná basin, may be misleading considering its continental character and its enormous residual amplitude. The spatial behavior of the lithology in the northwestern region of the State of São Paulo shows a superposition of clastic terms of different textures: mud-pebble conglomerates, conglomeratic and coarse-grained sandstones, fine and very fine-grained sandstones, and also mudstones, being the fine-grained sandstones the most common one. Although a well-defined order cannot be established, there is a repetition of similar structures in addition to short sedimentary cycles usually separated by a diastem. Likewise a horizontal variation of the lithology take place; the beds exhibit a short lateral extension and are interfingered . In the studies of the lateral variation and vertical sequence, the Itaqueri rudites as well as the limestone deposits, which are present in other Bauru areas, do not occur. That deposits should be considered as facies and consequently the undivided Bauru should be considered as a formation.
